I realize now that I really needed this break from beautiful, interesting, crowded, hotter-than-Hades Manhattan. After a weekend of petting Antonella's cat and bunnies, seeing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, nearly drowning (I kid) at Robert Moses State Park and buying a new bathing suit, I feel very much ready for my last two days of work on Monday and Tuesday. Ooh, and I got a little bit of a tan, too. Yay!
Summer seems to be the one season when my love for New York is sorely tested. There are many advantages to being in the City during the summer, but fleeing from it for a little while is key to stop from going insane. Or melting. Whichever comes first. Kudos to the Fresh Air Fund, indeed. By the way, did we even have a spring this year?
Of course, when autumn comes and the weather gets cooler, and the leaves explode into a riot of colors, and the posh Manhattanites come back from the Hamptons (gag) and school starts up again, I'll really love it again. I just wish that the City would give incentives to property owners and developers who install green roofs. Not only are they pretty, but they cut energy costs, clean the air, and reduce the urban heat island effect. It's a damned good idea, and I don't know why anyone's jumping on it.
Sigh...the train is coming in half an hour. Better get ready.
